32CH – Lesson 1E – SMOKE

32CH Lesson 1E - Smoke.001

Welcome to Pastor Solomon’s opus sermon on life!

His summary is that it’s all smoke.

After two personal encounters with God, being given more wisdom than another man before or since, he still was left with the harsh reality that he wasn’t wise enough to out live death and that certain things don’t come as a result of wisdom they are a GIFT from god.

Much of Solomon’s wisdom went to waste.  He was searching for the one thing he already had, a trust relationship with God.

Solomon also didn’t know how to enjoy the present moment.  He’s been given the superpower of wisdom but it lost it’s purpose.  Wisdom without purpose is poison.

In these first two chapters of Ecclesiastes Solomon gives us the first batch of results from his research.

Here’s some of what he researched for us:

Research (results)

The pursuit of wisdom (smoke)

Pleasure (smoke)

Building cities (smoke)

Money (smoke)

Power (smoke)

Sex (smoke)

Work (smoke)

Solomon recognized that in the end we all die.  Period.  No exemptions.

So he decides to preach a sermon about what gives life meaning.  And he says:

1. Enjoy your life.

2. Enjoy your work.

3. Be present.

Good Morning!

Good Morning!

This is Holy Week, the walk up to Easter Sunday.  As we remember what God through his beloved son has done for us let us rejoice.  The victory secured for us at Calvary means we win.  Set aside all your fears.  Christ is risen.  Your debt has been paid in full.  Receive his grace.  Trust him with every facet of your life.  May you know, grow and go with HIS wisdom.

I’m sorry that i can’t be with you today.  The notes for this week and the week before are here on the blog below.  Special thanks to Diondre for stepping in and stepping up!

I will be back with you on next TUE as we finish this cycle with Proverbs 31.

This also is a personal request that you pray for me this week.

Encouraging Words – Merton’s Prayer

Hallerin Hilton Hill

The early morning is a wonderful time to log on with God and download what you need for the day.

Prayer is an essential.  55% of Americans pray EVERY day.  75% agree that prayer is important.

I have to get a good dose or I’m done.  My cornerstone prayer is the Lord’s Prayer.  It’s perfect.

Recently a friend turned me on to a prayer written by Thomas Merton.  I’d like to share it with you this morning.

“My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end.

Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.

And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.

I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it.

Therefore will I trust you always, though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.”

Thomas Merton

Works for me!  Hope it works for you.

Grow.  Help others grow.  Be encouraged.

Discipline and Definition

Good Morning!

First a quick note.  No class next week DEC 23 2014.  We will be back in the groove on TUE DEC 31 2014.  Next up, Proverbs chapter 20.

Now a quick note on discipline and defintion.

This morning I was looking in the mirror.  Ummm, let’s just say I need some work.

A few years back I lost 75lbs, went from a 44 waist to a 32.  Big results.  I had muscular defintion.  Now, not so much.  The results were the result of DISCIPLINE, pure and simple.

Then God hit me with this:

When I lost my discipline I lost my definition.

I you’re world lack definition it likely lack discipline.

Make it an excellent day!
