Summer Break

Good evening,

The Proverbs Study Group will resume at Central Baptist Bearden on the first Tuesday in August.

Man, i’m going to miss connecting with you each week.  I am currently doing a 90-day life purge.  That just means I’m going through all the stuff I’ve accumulated and getting rid of everything that I no longer need.

It also means taking a long hard look at my heart and getting rid of everything that doesn’t belong there as well.  Pray for me.

Also pray that God will give me clarity on how to take this experience around the world.

I will be posting things here on the blog every week so check in.

if you need to reach me just text me or shoot me an email (hallerin@gmail.com).

And don’t forget your 555!

Right in front of my face

I’m sort of embarrassed.  I was looking for the answer to a big life question.  I’ve talked to a lot of really smart people, people I’d count as “wise”.

All of them gave me great, supportive feedback and advice.  I appreciate that.

But I was scrolling through this blog and read some of the notes from one of our classes and all the answers I was looking for were right there, right in front of my face.

It’s not enough to read Proverbs.  It’s not enough to engage in lively discussions about it.  You have to believe the wisdom and the word enough to ACT on it.

There is deep wisdom here.  The kind that will help you make quantum leaps in every area of your life.  But if you don’t believe enough to act on it then what good is it.

2014 has to be the year of applying the wisdom we’ve been given.

Notes:

“One who lacks self-control is despised; one who learns to curb desire is respected.”  Proverbs 13:18

If you really want respect learn to curb your desires.  If you try to play a video game without a controller you soon find you can’t.  If you try to play the game of life without self-control you soon find you can’t.

The best recipe is the following.

1. Know yourself.  And you won’t really know yourself until you’ve been tested.

2. Know your boundaries.  You’re boundaries are set by the will of God and his law.

3. Put the controls in his hands.
